Maras salt mines and Moray are incredible places. Maras is home to salt mines. Moray has ruins in the form of the Roman Coliseum. This site was used to for experimentation and investigation of many different variety of crops.

ITINERARY:

PROGRAM:

FIRST DAY: TRANSFER TO HOTEL – CITY TOUR

On arrival to the airport in Cusco, we will be waiting with a sign with your name, then we will transfer you to your hotel where you will rest for an hour or so, have the chance to acclimatize with a coca tea and in the afternoon we will come to pick you up at 13:30 p.m. to begin the Cusco City Tour and its surrounding areas. This circuit begins with the picking up of passengers from your hotel and then a special visit to the following archaeological and religious attractions which will be guided by a professional guide: The Qoricancha Palace and Convent of Santo Domingo Religious Center– Religious center known as the “Temple of the Sun” highlights the impressive engineering used in its construction.

  • The Cathedral – Former colonial religious monument that is of extraordinary artistic value.
  • Sacsayhuaman – Located 3 km. from the city of Cusco, impressive stone fortress and magnificent architecture. It is famous for its enormous carved stones, some of which are at 9 m/30 ft. high and weighing over 350 tons. This is where the Inti Raymi or “Festival of the Sun” is performed.
  • Qenqo – Ceremonial and ritual center, amphitheater where sacrifices were made.
  • Puca-Pucara – Old inn, lookout post along the Inca roads.
  • Tambomachay – 7 Km. From the city of Cusco, ceremonial center of worship of water, traditionally known as the place of water.

Tour Duration: 05 hours approx. Frequency: Every day in the afternoon.

SECOND DAY: TOUR TO SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

Today is the day we will tour the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The tour starts at 8:30 am, where you will be picked up from your hotel to make way towards the town of Pisac, which offers a typical vibrant market, with picturesque cultivated terraces on the mountains as your backdrop. Visit the archaeological site of Pisac, also famous for its artisanal fairs where you can buy authentic and beautiful handicrafts. From there we then head to Urubamba where a lunch buffet is included. After lunch, we journey to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, where descendants of the Incas once lived in the Incan constructed home. Finally, we head Ollantaytambo train station to board the train that leaves at 16:36 p.m. hours to Aguas Calientes, where we will approximately arrive at 18:09 p.m. Overnight stay at the hotel selected in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu).

THIRD DAY: TOUR TO MACHU PICCHU “THE LOST CITY OF THE INCAS”

After arising early and having breakfast, we head on up to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu where we can appreciate the spectacular sunrise of this marvel. Optional: You can make a trek to the summit of Huayna Picchu this will take about 2 hours round-trip (This tour does not include a guide). A guided tour of Machu Picchu that lasts about 2 hours will have you visiting the principal plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the royal quarters, the temple of the Three Windows and various cemeteries as mentioned before for roughly two hours. Then you will be given free time to stroll around the citadel on your terms. You will have all morning in Machu Picchu to take pictures of this mystical place. Then descend by bus to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon to catch your train back to Ollantaytambo, where our staff will be waiting for you, to transport you by bus to Cusco.

FOURTH DAY: TOUR OF MARAS MORAY & THE SALT MINES

After a delicious breakfast, we will pick you up at the hotel to head to the town of Maras, passing through very typical, quaint villages and beautiful scenery that you will most definitely enjoy on our route. We arrive and visit “Maras” a quaint village that stores attractive sites from the pre-Hispanic period as well as colonial and republican sites highlight its streets and colonial doorways. Moray is of Andean construction of agricultural platforms with their respective irrigation canals. Salineras or the Salt Mines are constructed of about 2,000 small salt wells which were exploited from Inca times as a means of economic exchange. Once the afternoon/evening arrives we will return to Cusco.

FIFTH DAY: SOUTH VALLEY TOUR

After a delicious breakfast, we pick you up from your hotel and we head to the south valley, where we will pass through the district of San Sebastian where the battle of Salina took place. After San Sebastian we pass through San Jerónimo characteristic for its countryside and from there we make onwards towards Piquillaqta and Rumicolca a quarry during Pre-Inca times. Later, we will visit the Church of Andahuylillas considered the “Sistine Chapel of America” for its stunning architecture, decorations in gold leaf and paintings from the Cuzco School. Finally, we head to Tipon, a climatic and agricultural laboratory of during Incan period. In the afternoon we return to Cusco.

SIXTH DAY: BID FAREWELL AND UNTIL NEXT TIME

Breakfast at your hotel, then a free day to visit the “Imperial City” and its attractions on your own terms. We will than pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the airport. End of service.
