The Ausangate is the most representative mountain of Andes. It is located to 6,372 meters height.
Turquoises lagoons, extensive plains and stone forest, turn totally to the zone an isolated lunar paradise. To walk by the landscapes of the Ausangate is an indescribable, in which it is impossible not to be astonished before the beauty at the dusks and eternal snows. He is frequent to also be with rock needles that rise to more than five thousand meters of height and with ice tongues that fall of vertiginous way and form glacial lagoons.
DAY 1: CUSCO – TINKI – UPIS
We leave at 9:00 am from Cusco by private bus. After 3 hours, we arrive to Tinki (3800 meters). On the way, we will observe beautiful Andean countryside and traditional agricultural landscapes. From Tinki, we start walking for 5 hours to Upis, our first camp at 4200 m. L/D
DAY 2: UPIS – JATUN PUCAQOCHA
After breakfast, we start the trek at the pass of La Arapa at 4850 m. Later, we will observe the Andean vizcachas (relatives of rabbits) and a beautiful view from the top of Ausangate Mountain. Then begin to descend to see beautiful lakes of blue and turquoise waters. Set up camp at Lake Pucaqocha (big red lake). B/L/D
DAY 3: JATUN PUCAQOCHA – UCHUY FINAYA
This day we go through two passes. The first pass of Apuchata at 4900 m. and then the pass of Palomani at 5200m. Finally, we arrive to Uchuy Finaya where we camp. We will take advantage of a spectacular mountain view of Ausangate and Alpaca troops. B/L/D
DAY 4: HUCHUY FINAYA – PACCHANTA
This day we will go through the pass of Q’ampa at 5000 m. Observe vicunas and Andean birds: Andean ducks, eagles, etc. The Vizcachas are also common in Pacchanta. Camp near the thermal baths. B/L/D
DAY 5: PACCHANTA – TINKI – CUSCO
After breakfast, we drive to Tinki. The hike takes about two hours. From Tinki, take a bus back to Cusco to arrive in the afternoon. B/L
- Pick up from hotel and private transportation by bus to Tinki return to Cusco.
- Double tents, mattresses, kitchen tent, dining tent, chairs, tables.
- Professional guide in English or Spanish language.
- First aid kit and oxygen tank.
- Horsemen and horses to carry (camping equipment and passengers gear approximately 7 kilos per person)
- High mountain sleeping tents, inflatable mattresses
- Cook for the preparation of food.
